The Friedrich Schiller School opened its doors in September 1972 with 270 students. German was taught by qualified language teachers from Kindergarten to Grade 13.
Teachers and administrative staff have always tried their best to kindle love and interest for the German language in their students. Stage performances complemented by the sounds of the School Choir on various festive occasions have helped to achieve this goal. The school principal organized 5 trips to Germany for groups of 20-25 students. These young people learned a lot about the country and its people, travelling on foot, by car and sleeping in youth hostels. In 1978, they visited Wallerstein, the birthplace of Wiliam Berczy, the builder of Yonge Street in Toronto.
In 1999, Mrs. Christa Guschewski received the Bundesverdienstkreuz from German government for her dedication and commitment to foster the German heritage, language and culture.
Principals and teachers of other schools visited us often and even former Premier Bill Davis spent a whole morning at our school.
